Unfortunately, I am one of those women, and I know a lot of us, who somehow can't seem to get over our anger and hurt where our mothers are concerned, and who are determined to do better with our own daughters. Now, when I speak to similarly angry women whose mothers are still alive, I press upon them this advice: try again, and this time, listen better.Sally Mann, Hold Still: A Memoir with Photographs (New York: Little, Brown & Co., 2015), p. 196
